Day 2 - the pool and the hike

For some reason, we were up at 5:30 am...must be because we went to bed at 7 the night before. Gotta love jet lag. The one bonus, March Madness was on at 6 in the morning and done by noon. As Dickey V says "Awesome BABY!)

Heather has picked Hawaii for the start of our fitness comeback. At 6 am we did a 3 mile run/walk along the shore. Have to admit, it felt good.

We spent the midmorning and early afternoon laying by the pool....for me recovering from the run that we did earlier. At some point, we both decided to go to Diamond Head for a hike. Diamond Head is an inactive volcano about 2 miles from our hotel. From its highest point, you can get an amazing view of the island. However, the climb was a different story.

We took the bus there for $2 a piece. We were told that since we were walking in the park, it would be a $1 entry fee. So we started walking up hill to the entrance to pay our $1. We walked, and walked and walked for about a mile until we got to the entrance, in the middle of the volcano. And then the exercise started. It was a 1.5 mile hike to the top of the volcano filled with stairs, look out points, tunnels, and more stairs. But the view was worth it! You could see down into Wakiki and Honolulu. We were able to see dolphins swimming out into the ocean. Heather claims to have seen a whale but we don't know if it was a little whale or a big dolphin. However, the views were breathtaking.

Before we left for this hike, we called the kids. Audrey was concerned that we were going to a volcano and warned us repeatedly to "be good and don't fall in the volcano". Well, Heather fell in the volcano! On our way down, Heather slipped off the path and skinned her knee...thus falling in the volcano like Audrey predicted!

Sushi for dinner, steak for me and then we were able to make it to 8 pm before bed!
